Friends and fellow democrats,
Not long ago we stood together in one of the most historic campaigns our country has ever seen. Many of us worked more hours volunteering for campaigns as we did in our every day jobs. Some of us did things that we thought we’d never do, such as knocking on doors and making hundreds of phone calls to potential supporters of our now President and Congressmen.
As we anticipated, these efforts paid off. We elected President Barack Obama. Our hard work and tireless effort was the catalyst for victory in November, and we need you now more than ever to continue the battle when it is most needed.
Our government is at a pivotal time in the fight to reform health care in this country. A system that most will agree is broken, and is in dire need of reform. Our President and representatives need to know that their constituents support this initiative, despite the inane and outright false accusations and outbursts from the right.
Below are a few action items that you can get involved in. You can do as many or as few as you like, but please make an effort to do at least one. This is the time in which we need your help most.
First and foremost, Contact your Senator and Representative. Let him/her know that you support healthcare reform. Go to http://action.yda.org/c/4426/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2374 and pledge your support.
Second, reach out and talk to your neighbors, family, friends, colleagues and co-workers. Talk to them about their concerns regarding healthcare reform and guide them to how this will benefit not only those that HAVE insurance by providing more security and stability.
Third, talk to seniors. Many, if not all, are on Medicare/Medicaid. As the president stated, “Medicare is another issue that’s been subjected to demagoguery and distortion during the course of this debate.” Medicare will not change! Medicare will not be reduced! The President’s proposed commission will help institute “Common sense best practices” already used by doctors and health care professions that have streamlined the Medicare process within their own clinics, private practices, hospitals and providers.
Lastly, this is our time. This is our country. This is our healthcare. Reach out to the conservatives, to the opposition, to those that still don’t believe that healthcare reform IS economic reform.
Please also consider forward this e-mail to your friends, family and colleagues so that they too may get involved in the effort.
Very Truly Yours,
Jobeth R. Bowers
